SKH Lam Kau Mow Secondary School
Founded in 1983, the School Choir comprises the Senior Mixed Voice Choir, Senior Girls’ Choir, Junior Treble Choir, and Boys’ Choir, with 130 members in total. The School Choir is dedicated to providing choral and vocal training for students, enhancing their knowledge of choral music, and nurturing their team spirit.
The School Choir has actively participated in various musical events over the past three decades, including inter-school competitions, school functions, and public performances. The School Choir’s performance credits includes Guinness World Record events “Our 15 Years – Youth Musical Performance” and “Ode to Joy – Concert of Ten Thousand” held by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, and Christmas carols for Hong Kong Ocean Park, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Hong Kong International Airport.
In competitions, the School Choir’s awards include Silver Grade I (Chamber Choir) at the “Orientale Concentus VII, an International Choral Festival 2014” in Singapore, Vocal Band Champion at the “Hong Kong International a cappella Contest (School Division)”, Best Secondary School Mixed Voice Choir at the “67th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival”, and the Senior Girls’ Choir won the Dr Mok Hiu Hing Trophy at the “68th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival”.
Joanne Kong
Conductor
Born in Hong Kong, Kong developed a passion for music at a very young age. Kong holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Music) from The University of Hong Kong in 2006 and Master of Arts in Music (Distinction) from Hong Kong Baptist University with major in Choral Conducting in 2015. During her studies, she received the Helen Moore-Williams Music Prize and Scholastic Award. Besides, she has attained Certificate of Teaching from ABRSM and Certificate of Advanced Piano Performance from Kingston University.
Kong has been involved in music education since graduation from the University. She worked initially as a piano teacher, accompanist and choral conductor. She was the Chief Accompanist of Southern District Children’s Choir in 1996 and joined the Hong Kong Children’s Choir in 2000 and conducted one of the senior classes. She obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Music Teaching in 2013 and is now the Head of Music Department in SKH Lam Kau Mow Secondary School.
As a singing lover, she participated in many vocal competitions when she was young. She was the champion of Vocal Solo in Hong Kong Schools’ Music Festival when she was 16. Under the leadership of Kong, the school choir and orchestra always achieved excellent results in different music competitions. The school choir won the title of “The Best Secondary School Mixed Voice Choir” in Hong Kong School’s Music Festival in 2015. The school orchestra also won the title “Band of the year 2016” in Joint School Music Competition. As an educator of music, Kong received the Outstanding Education Award in The Hong Kong-Asia Piano Open Competition.
