ENSEMBLES 2017

Thai Youth Orchestra

Thai Youth Orchestra

Thai Youth Orchestra was founded in 1986 by Dr Saisuree Jutikul, then Head of the National Council for Youth Development. Inspired by the passion and vision of Professor Phukorn Srinarong, TYO's Music Director, the orchestra's initial goals were to nurture young aspiring classical musicians towards professional and international careers, offering high standard orchestral training, and making classical music more accessible to Thai people. Over the past 30 years, TYO have produced over 1,500 professional Thai musicians who excel at home and abroad. Its alumni have continued on to attend major Music Conservatories across the globe including Yale, Juilliard, Curtis, New England, Royal Academy, Guildhall, Hong Kong Academy, Vienna University, Mozarteum, Graz, etc, and presented performances in the world's best concert halls and festivals. The orchestra has performed in many of the world's leaders and royals.

Since 1990, TYO has been operating under the Department of Cultural Promotion and resides at the Thailand Cultural Center. The year 2006 was a milestone as the orchestra became the first and only music ensemble to be granted Royal Patronage by the late HRH Princess Galvani Vadhana, elder sister to the late HM King Bhumibol. Today TYO continues to present major classical concerts, outreach projects nationwide, and performing for world leaders and royals on several occasions. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the orchestra currently goes through major transformations in music, management, branding, and operation under the guidance of Dr Paye Srinarong, newly appointed Music Director, to work alongside his father.
The Vienna performance marks the orchestra's European debut.
