Caulfield Grammar School Kreisler Strings
Kreisler strings is an intermediate level group comprising of secondary school aged students from Years 7-12 across the two campuses of Caulfield Grammar School. In this group students continue to develop their individual and ensemble skills through studying and performing a broad range of string repertoire, ranging from Bach and Vivaldi to film scores and recent publications for string ensembles. Kreisler Strings performs at numerous school related functions each year including concerts and events organised by the school as well as community-based events. Every second year members of the group are involved in the School Concert held in Hamer Hall; Melbourne’s premier concert hall. Members of the group are also involved in the schools’ Symphony Orchestra as well as Chamber Music ensembles or other bands and choirs, giving them the opportunity to undertake a broad range of musical experiences and to study and perform a wide range of music repertoire.
Emma Charles
Conductor
Emma Charles began her musical journey at the tender age of two learning the Suzuki Method under the tutorage of Cathy Lee in San Francisco. Since then she has spent a period of more than 20 years studying with many of the best violin teachers in Australia. She has completed her Bachelor of Music (Honours) and Master of Arts (Music Performance) at Monash University learning with Elizabeth Sellars and Roger Jonsson where she held an Australian Postgraduate Award for the duration of her Masters Degree. She also gained the Arts Merit Scholarship, Ensemble Leadership Scholarship and the Allan's Music Prize for highest marks in Chief Practical studies for both 2008 and 2011. She has participated in a range of ensembles, touring Prato, Italy and Brazil with Monash Sinfonia, and as concertmaster of Melbourne String Ensemble, performing alongside renowned artists including Timothy Fain, Nemanja Radulovic and Eric Whitacre. She has played on 3MBS radio as a soloist and as part of various ensembles. Emma is a qualified and passionate teacher of the Suzuki method, who has been employed at Caulfield Grammar School since 2014. She currently conducts several string ensembles whilst also facilitating their highly successful Suzuki program which currently involves over 160 primary and secondary students.
Oscar Woinarski
Cellist
Oscar is a freelance cellist heavily involved in the Melbourne music scene. Performing with a distinguished rich and warm sound, Oscar aims at evoking the true emotions involved in music making through carefully constructed programs and performances. Oscar completed his studies at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music in 2019 with a Master of Music degree majoring in Performance. During his studies, Oscar was fortunate enough to perform in distinguished concert halls in USA, South Korea, Hong Kong and New Zealand. While at university Oscar studied under the tutelage of Alvin Wong and Edith Salzmann and received masterclasses from internationally acclaimed cellists Li-Wei Qin, Peter Wispelwey and Brant Taylor. While Oscar enjoys performing as a soloist, his passion is in music education. Oscar dedicates his time to teaching emerging students solo and chamber repertoire where he uses his experiences of ensemble/solo performance to cultivate a passion for music making amongst his students and inspire the next generation of musicians.
