The United World College is a mission-driven organisation with a strong commitment to the education principles of their founder, Kurt Hahn: An enterprising curiosity, an undefeatable spirit, tenacity in pursuit, and above all, compassion. The UWC movement has a passionate belief in the importance of education as a means for good in the world and makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. The String Orchestra is comprised of 43 enthusiastic musicians between the age of 11 and 18 from the United World College of South East Asia, Singapore.

Jacqueline Hanna graduated from Auckland University with a Bachelor of Music (Performance) in violin-playing then went on to obtain a Graduate Diploma of Education from the Queensland University of Technology. She is an accomplished violinist, having played in the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Queensland Pops’ Orchestra, and a number of professional chamber ensembles. While working for Queensland Education she developed excellent string programs and her orchestras regularly obtained awards in the Gold Coast Eisteddfod and Queensland Festival of Music. Jacqueline is a passionate advocate for quality music education, she inspires, nurtures, and challenges her students to be the best musicians they can, forever enriching their lives. She is currently employed by UWCSEA where she teaches Middle School Music and works extensively with orchestras and violin students. Jacqueline is delighted to conduct the UWCSEA String Orchestra for their second appearance at the SCL International Youth Music Festival.
