Changhua County Youth Symphony Orchestra
Changhua County Youth Symphony Orchestra Changhua County Youth Symphony Orchestra is founded by Changhua County government in 2010. The director of the orchestra is Changhua Country mayor, Hui-Mei Wang. This orchestra recruits high school students from 7th grade to 12th grade studying within the county. This orchestra is created to carry on the successful campaign to promote the string education in Changhua County. Later in 2011, Changhua County successfully held a record breaking event in which over 4600 violin students played simultaneously. The mission of Changhua County Youth Symphony Orchestra is to provide professional and continuous ensemble training for students in Changhua. Through regular rehearsals and concerts, we spread the music and joys to all the audience and orchestra members. Thus the music enriches people’s life. Since the establishment of the orchestra, we have been expanding the experience of music performance. In addition to traditional classical concerts, the repertoire also includes opera, vocal accompaniment, movie soundtrack pop and folk music. Currently the orchestra conductor is Kai-Wei Chuang.
Chuang Kai-Wei
Conductor
Kai-Wei Chuang, native of Taiwan. Currently serves as a clarinetist in the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra. He started learning clarinet at the age of 15 and studied at Changhua High School, Soochow University, Michigan State University, Cleveland Institute of Music, and University of Minnesota. He studied under Wei-Leng Chen, Elsa Verdehr, Franklin Cohen, and Alexander Fiterstein. From 2011 to 2014, he was employed by the Macao Orchestra as the 2nd/Eb/Bass clarinet and taught at the Macao Academy for Performing Arts. He has toured Europe and Mainland China with the orchestra many times. During this period, he was invited to participate in the Asia Pacific United Orchestra's European tour. He was also invited to be the guest clarinet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra many times. From 2015 to 2018, he was employed by the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra as a tutti and bass clarinet member. He has been invited to give clarinet master classes at the University of Minnesota, Soochow University, Chiayi University and Hong Kong Baptist University. In 2016 and 2017, Mr. Chunag was invited by the Feng Chia University Wind Ensemble and the Taipei United Wind Ensemble to perform The Clarinet Concerto No. 2 composed by Spanish composer Oscar Navarro at the Chung Hsing Hall in Taichung and the Zhongshan Hall in Taipei, both of which were well received. In addition to working in the orchestra, he also serves as the conductor of the Changhua County Youth Orchestra and regularly holds performances in Changhua County. In 2020, he served as a cooperative artist of Royal Global Clarinet in the United States.
