Tamsui Philharmonic Winds was founded in 2011. We offer professional opportunities to students who are interested in music. Children learning wind orchestral music to give play to their skills in confidence on the stage.

Conductor

Conducting is enlightened by Amy Chang, Sheng-Yi Chang majored in Performing Art Management in the University of Greenwich during his study in the U.K. and was committed to the studies of musical arts and audience development, which earned him the master’s degree in the university. He then travelled to U.S. for the master program of conducting. During his study in the U.S., he had obtained full scholarship as well as scholarships of research assistant and assistant teacher. He also received instructions from Professor John Boyd from Indiana State University; Professor Scott Weiss from University of South Carolina; Professor Charles Peltz from New England Conservatory of Music; Professor Donald Hunsberger and Professor Mark Davis Scatterday from Eastman School of Music; Professor Michael Votta, Jr. from University of Maryland; and Col. L. Bryan Shelburne, former chief conductor of the U.S. Army Band. He won the prize in the Beijing International Band Festival in 2009, as well as the orchestra award in the conductor competition of Danube Symphony Orchestra (DSO) in Budapest; he then conducted in the city as well. In 2012, he won the gold medal award in the Taoyuan International Wind Orchestra Competition with the highest recognition by the judges. He also won the silver medal award in the Taiwan International Orchestra Contest in 2014. During his time in the U.S., he was hired as the assistant teacher and conductor in Indiana State University. After returning to Taiwan, he was invited as the guest conductor of Hsinchu Philharmonic Orchestra, music director of Hsinchu Winds, conductor of Taiwan Pops Orchestra, and assistant conductor of Taipei Chinese Orchestra. Currently, Chang is acting as the convener of Winds & Percussion Arts (WAPA) and Tamsui Winds Development League, as well as the music director of Tamsui Philharmonic Winds and Guandu Philharmonic Winds.
